Overview
NHS Data Services are delivering a new data processing servicewith a vision is to provide: -

The Data Processing Service is based on a Databricks Spark environment, with a collection of analytical and visualisation tools to provide complimentary capabilities.
The service continues to rapidly evolve to meet the increasing requirements for research data requirements and operational reporting requirements driven by COVID-19 focused initiatives.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following key areas:
• Ownership: solutions architecture & design for capabilities supporting the Data Processing Service. Identifying opportunities for system improvement, resolving technical debt, providing a roadmap for improvements and working with product management team to schedule and deliver to the roadmap
• Ownership: Providing architecture oversight & direction to a number of delivery & product teams, ensuring alignment with NHS Digital principles and the NHS Data Processing Service vision, mission and strategic roadmap
• Contributing to: managing architecture design and change in dependent systems, paying particular attention to the non-functional requirements such as security, performance, scalability, availability, cost and operations, as well as ensuring that architecture documentation is accurate and up to date.
• Contributing to: The role requires significant engagement with multiple stakeholder groups such as the executive team, the business team, the development partners, external suppliers, as well as a multitude of internal NHS Digital teams such as Technical Architecture, Solution Assurance, Service Management, and Platforms & Infrastructure.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
• Applications & Integrations-focussed solutions architect with demonstrable experience of working successfully with varied development teams in a fast-paced cloud-based environment
• Experience of leading and delivering technical change, challenging the status-quo, anticipating problems and monitoring implementation progress.
• Experience of delivering integrated big-data solutions
• Experience of Databricks, and integration between Databricks and other solutions
• Experience of delivering Talend and/or Tableau
• Excellent written and communication skills
• Evidence of identifying and documenting functional and non-functional requirements for a project
• Experience of architecting large-scale solutions on AWS
Advantageous
• Experience of working with a range of interoperability and integration mechanisms and solutions
• Experience of delivering secure data environments
• Knowledge of Spark and R-Studio
• Knowledge of interoperability within Healthcare systems and associated standards
• Knowledge of and experience of using architecture frameworks such as TOGAF
• Knowledge of core NHS and healthcare technologies
• Knowledge of the NHS
