Infrastructure Designer / Architect
Job title
Infrastructure Designer / Architect
Job description
Duration : Until 31/03/2022
Position : Infrastructure Designer / Architect
The core laboratory IT team is responsible for the delivery of core laboratory IT systems to the laboratory, including LIMS, results analysis software, MI solutions, integration components and quality systems. This team must ensure a robust and quality-driven approach to the capture of requirements, creation of design artefacts, validation of delivery of software and management of change. Areas of delivery may include integration changes involving wider T&T upstream and downstream systems, workflow changes to the existing COVID ePCR testing lines, integration to new instrumentation, implementation of MI solutions, and may also include introduction of new testing capabilities, including genome sequencing.
The Solution Architect is required to support the Core Lab IT Lead Architect, who has overall responsibility for the overall end to end laboratory IT solution design, including laboratory information management system (LIMS) workflow, integration designs for instrumentation and to other upstream and downstream systems. The Solution Architect will use detailed understanding of the data modelling to support changes to laboratory systems and to support other delivery projects, including those focusing on logistics improvements, management information and reporting.
The Solution Architect will:
• Work closely with the Core Lab IT Lead Architect in the production of key design artefacts
• Work closely with systems analysts and laboratory systems product owners to ensure functional and non-functional requirements are captured, challenged, prioritised and refined appropriately.
• Ensure the designed solutions can meet functional and non-functional requirements, and support testing teams in planning for validation against these requirements.
• Work closely with solution vendors to ensure the optimum approach is used to meet user requirements, using an understanding of solution capabilities to ensure out-of-the-box functionality is used effectively and bespoke configuration and enhancing is deployed on where necessary.
• Engage with product owners/technical leads/stakeholders of upstream and downstream systems (order comms, logistics, citizen resulting systems, management information reporting systems) to ensure a depth of knowledge of laboratory data is input into change planning in these areas, and any impacts of change in these areas to the laboratory systems is well understood.
• Produce options appraisals and / or design artefacts for changes to laboratory workflow and / or systems integration.
• Producing and maintaining artefacts such as high-level designs, infrastructure and network architecture diagrams, solution design, sequence diagrams, decision logs etc.
• Producing Data design artefacts – including entity relationship diagram, master data management, integration designs including data flows.
• Ensure a robust approach to data integrity through understanding of ALCOA principles.
• Ensure traceability between requirements and systems design artefacts, supporting systems validation to GMP standards.
• To ensure that designs adhere to agreed principles, policies and roadmaps, whilst meeting business requirements you will collaborate and work effectively with other professionals:
• Enterprise Architects
• Domain Architects
• Business Analysts
• Test Managers
• IT Security consultants
• Operational Stakeholders and SMEs
• Vendor technical leads
The solution architect will have expertise in:
Essential:
• Experience of a range of technologies including, for example, Messaging & Middleware, Microservices, Cloud and Data Streaming – APIs, archiving and back-up solutions, data lakes, service and application monitoring solutions
• Production of design artefacts capturing systems configuration changes, systems workflow and user-systems interaction, equipment and systems integrations, and data model and data flow.
• Experience of design in an enterprise with a range of integrated on-prem and cloud solutions
• Solution design in highly integrated environments managing high-volume transactions
• Agile software development and application lifecycle management
• Adherence to key principles of ISO 27001 in the design of integrated solutions
Desirable:
• Understanding of design Business Intelligence (BI) solutions and experience designing analytical or BI Visualisation outputs.
• Operational processes, including Quality control processes, in clinical diagnostic laboratories
• Adherence to key principles of ISO15189, ISO17025 and ISO13485 in the design and validation of software solutions in a laboratory/healthcare environment solutions and related systems
