Migration Architect
Capability Definition
Responsible for all technical aspects of a client’s workload migration from point A to Point B (includes migration across/within datacenters, server states, user bases, operating systems, HW/SW versions, platforms, workplaces, delivery teams, etc.). Provides overall design/engineering direction and support for migration across all towers to ensure the program meets the contractual obligations and operational standards, as well as the client’s business imperatives.
Responsibilities
- Provides support to Transformation Technical Lead in managing all technical aspects of the migration across all server types, across all towers, to ensure each application and server can be migrated source-to-target successfully, and ensures all Migration Engineers fully understand the technical challenges and solutions of each migration wave
- Ensures Workload Assessment & Migration Engine (WAME) capabilities and best-practices are used to optimize the migration of workload
- Oversees and approves changes to solution should any changes/additions to Source environment be identified that require it
- Manages all work to ensure detailed design documentation and implementation guides are completed and handed over to appropriate T&T, Account and Capability resources
- Works with Migration Design and Capability Design Engineers during technical escalations to resolve issues during the window
- Responsible for technical integration across all the towers
Responsibility Details
- Works with Transformation Technical Lead (TTL) to validate the high-level design provided by the solution team for Transition and Transformation program
- Provides support to TTL for overall engineering direction across all towers to ensure the program meets the contractual obligations and operational standards
- Manages and coordinates with the technical teams to ensure the following work is performed:
- Works with various Architects on creation of Client Reference Architecture document
- Works with various Engineers on creation of design documents for servers (e.g., new servers, swing servers, Citrix farm, lift and shift)
- Works with Storage Engineer to facilitate the data migration requirements so the storage environment at target site will be ready and help with the data migration plans (e.g., data replication)
- Works with Network Engineer to facilitate the creation of migration requirements so that network infrastructure meets the needs of the migration (including ensuring the migration circuit is sized appropriately)
- Manages technical components in SSoT to be 3C-data (correct, current, complete) for all CMO workloads at all times
- Works with Migration Engagement Lead (MEL) to
- construct/modify move-groups,
- define workload placement,
- define migration method, and
- perform migration tool selection
- Leads technical troubleshooting of workload migrations to address technical obstacles and ensure migrations get back on-track
- Responsible for all types of migrations in-scope
- P2P, P2V, P2C, V2V, V2C, SameBox/Lift-n-Shift, etc.
- HW and/or SW upgrades
- Within datacenter, across datacenters
- Replication via network, swing-gear, etc..
- Responsible for validation of all technical dependencies
- Hardware build-out/configuration
- Associated devices/configuration (Load Balancers, Firewalls, Storage)
- Generation of detailed work instructions to perform migrations of each type and/or tool
- Works with TTL to project demand of all key resources

Education and Experience Required
- Meets degree educational requirements or has equivalent work experience for job code.
- 12+ years of relevant industry experience with between 3 and 5 years at the Master level with a consistent record of significant contribution level, leadership and impact to the business, the company services technical community, and/or the industry
- Certification in various migration tools (DoubleTake, PlateSpin, etc.) a plus
- Certification in various Server level Operating Systems a plus (Windows, Linux, Solaris, etc.)
Technical Skills and Experiences:
Prerequisites: (applicant must meet all to qualify)
- 10-15+ years’ experience in technical IT (preferably in datacenter)
- 5+ years’ experience related to datacenter migrations
- Able to deal with complex issues involving customers and vendors
- Will have used at least one of these migration tools (DoubleTake, PlateSpin, Zerto, AppZero, FLAR, RSYNC, Robocopy, RACEMI)
Additional skills desired but not essential:
- MS SharePoint
- AIX, HP-UX, OpenVMS and their various versions
- Knowledge of 3PAR, EVA, EMC Storage
- Knowledge of storage migration tools (e.g. MPX200)
- Knowledge of HPE Operations Orchestration (OO)
- Knowledge of Load Balance and Firewall Configurations
- ITIL certification
- Non-technical Skills and Experiences:
