Senior Technical Architect role
We are looking for Senior Technical Architects from all domains to work with product owners, technical leads, software engineers, technical experts and business analysts throughout the change lifecycle to inform, shape and define our intentional architecture and develop emergent designs.
In line with our Technology Strategy we are using a business capability-based approach to simplify and modularise our technology estate, building solutions using a combination of HMLR built software and commodity services.
With over 25 teams delivering new and improved services we are looking for someone who can work closely with teams to design and develop end-to-end solutions using bespoke applications, Public Cloud Platform as a Service (AWS, Azure etc) and Software as a Service offerings.
Typically, each Senior Technical Architect is assigned 2 or 3 services/projects, they will spend their time working with teams to understand/influence service/product roadmaps, embedding best-practice standards and patterns and leading on architecturally significant design activities.
Technical skills
Ability to design at least one of the following:
• Cloud-based platforms using IaaS & PaaS (AWS & Azure)
• Container management technologies (Kubernetes/OpenShift),
• Networking and other data centre-based technologies
• Data platforms (PostgreSQL, NoSQL, Enterprise analytics)
• Identity & Authentication Management platforms
• Good working knowledge of the architectural domains (Business, Data, Application, Infrastructure and Security).
Essential Criteria
You will be able to demonstrate experience of:
• Designing solutions for large projects and seeing those designs through to delivery
• Taking accountability for end-to-end solutions from initiation to initial delivery and its ongoing lifecycle in line with a strategy
• Identifying and managing change and its impact
• Planning for decommissioning, maintainability, reliability, performance and scalability
• Working very close to technology to deliver functional, supportable architectures
• Showing where complex problems have been solved
• Identifying technical debt, minimising and reducing it in your designs
• Where collaboration with multiple agile delivery teams to deliver the required outcome has been used
• Where the needs of stakeholders, and identifying technical challenges and changes took place
• Having taken ownership of a problem with no obvious solution
• Using and understanding of a broad range of technologies, tools and processes
• Communication with stakeholders while having a good grasp on how to negotiate with different parties
Desirable Criteria
• Previous Public Sector experience and an understanding of Central Government IT related initiatives, policies and standards
• Experience of the competitive IT procurement life cycle; specifically, solution specification and evaluation criteria
• Experience of building, maintaining and managing relationships with vendors
• Experience of working within a Technical Design Authority function
